Paul Hiscutt was able to recall some of the scores from Somerset Knock Out Cup matches from years back:

Year Opposition Score
1978 Bath University 0-26
1979 Burnham 18-7
  St Brendans Old Boys 4-12
1980 Tor 4-20
1982 Bath 3-76
1990 RNAS Yeovilton 20-22 Paul remembers that Martin Howe missed a penalty with the last kick of the match

The Bath game is one that is a cherished memory for those who played in it. For more information and a simply classic picture of the day, please click here.

Other Cup matches Paul remembers, but not the years, are:

Lost 0-11   at Wyvern vs Yatton
Lost 3-11   away at Clevedon   (either 81 or 83)
Lost 3-12   at Morganians   Paul remembers he was Captain for the day as Club Captain, Dave Uphill was injured
One year beating Bath Harlequins in round one and then losing away to Frome in the next round (was Humpy Captain?)

Thanks, Paul, for your contribution.

Further to Paul's Cup Match thoughts, here are those of Bob MacWilliams regarding the Frome match:

The game against Frome was lost by about 53pts to 3 I think.  We hit the bar with a penalty in the 1st minute which only served to make Frome play better than was strictly necessary to beat us.  Stockers got injured and sent to hospital (dislocated shoulder/collar bone type injury).

The coach stopped off at the Cannard's Grave Inn at Shepton Mallet  where we ordered 18 pints of guiness with a pernod and pickled egg!   On board the coach we had stowed a souvenir of our day out.  This was an 8ft by 4ft painting which had been propped up against the outside of the clubhouse.  It was quite a struggle to manouvre the thing on board and just as much effort was needed to get it off and put it on Mick Halligan's lawn at 1 o'clock in the morning.  Mick, then club secretary or president, had been unable to make the trip as he was laid up at home with a back injury and knew nothing of the incident until the next day when he opened his curtains.

Sure enough the phone rang with a call from an irate phone Frome RFC.  The painting had been commissioned by the club from a local artist, an OAP with a long history connecting him to Frome RFC.  The painting was due to be unveiled at the next match when he was going to present it to the club.  Mick quickly put two and two together and persuaded Frome that if he got the painting back to them undamaged and in time for the next match that they would take no further action and put the incident down to innocent high jinks on the part of some mindless, juvenile arseholes.

Yes - that's us

Footnote:

We stopped playing in the cup some years ago after a trip to Old Sullians, when only 9 Wyvern players turned up at the appointed time of departure. We rustled up two Taunton RFC players and borrowed 4 from Sullians; all backs! We lost 112-0. There has not been the heart to be cannon fodder in recent years, but who knows for the future ...
