The onset of Summer
The 'fun stuff' has already started with touch on Thursday evenings at the Club. In these early weeks we have seen old boys Granddad and Uncle (Howie and Matt Shane) shimmying their hips and trying to relive their youth, while some fit and agile Newbies have also been introduced by the few actual players who have found their way to the Club. Come on boys, it won't hurt, and if Howie can do it then so can you.
Momentum is now gathering behind the Dragon Boat Race taking place on June 9th. Whether you are participating or not you can still come along and you can still sponsor those that are doing it. You will find all the details HERE.
For those of you who have not got a bike or lights, please have them sorted in time for the Cycle Ride on 7th June. The main peleton will meet at the Wyvern by 6.30pm and head off on the first stage from there.
Lows and Highs at the End of the Season
For 60 minutes Wyvern were 'in the mix', but the lack of players at the end of a busy April of rugby saw the fitter Somerton run away with things in the last 20 minutes, scoring 6 tries to win by 52-6.
This was not the finale we would have hoped for, but it was a suitable end to a first season in Somerset 2. A commendable 8th bodes well for the future and with a win against Taunton 3rds being the cherry on the cake.
The Presentation Dinner in the evening allowed us to reflect on the past 8 months and give the whole team a well deserved pat on the back. For some individuals there were a few accolades, as follows:
- Player of the Year: Dan Flynn
- Clubman of the Year: Rich Carr
- Most Improved Player: Nick Wilkins
- Players Player of the Year: Pete Flook
- Top Points Scorer: Pete Flook
Howie thanked Matt Shane for managing the Club finances, Kev Black for all his work in the background organising fixtures and referees, and there was a toast to Dave Hughes for his outstanding leadership during the last 2 years. Howie then released Kev Black with "Black's Black Bag Awards"! We are still waiting for all the photos, but here is a taster, at the expense of Captain Copper!
